Who is Jeff Cohen?

I'm a painter in real life. No, not a house painter. I won't paint your house. I'm an artist! I sell paintings in galleries, if you can believe that. Here, check this out:

See? I used to be a graphic designer and illustrator, but around the year 2000 I decided to try and salvage the tiny scrap of soul that was still alive, and try the fine art thing. A friend told me about selling art on eBay, which I decided to try. Originally I was hoping to make back enough to pay for my art supplies, but it soon became apparent that I could actually do pretty well at the eBay art game. Having an awesome and understanding wife who was also a graphic designer, I was able to quit my real job and sell art full time.

Here's the problem with selling art on eBay: you find yourself always trying to guess what's going to sell for the highest price. It doesn't take too long to realize that it's not all that different from graphic design. I mean sure, I could do whatever weird crap comes into my head - but do you think anybody would buy it? Okay, they will. But they won't pay much for it! Not enough to say, allow me to have a place to live? So I needed a creative outlet to give me some sense of fulfillment from my art. I invented a dude named Jessi Buchanan to paint silly things. That helped, but it was still limiting. You can find out more about Jessi here:

After a few years I gained enough notoriety as an artist to get into a few good galleries, so I don't do eBay any more. Jessi kind of shriveled up and died, though my wife thinks he might just be on a heroin binge* or something, and he may just show up again someday. I love my job. I love painting the paintings I do for galleries. But I have to tell you, I still yearn to make weird art with questionable commercial value. Art for art's sake! Also, I am a publicity whore. I like web traffic. I like reading reviews of my comics. I like stirring things up and feeling like I am making some tiny contribution to the culture. I also like having a place to vent my philosophical and political views without worrying about how it will affect the marketability of my art. So here it is! I hope you enjoy it!

*I don't do heroin. I have never done heroin. It is fictional heroin because Jessi is fictional, see?
